Charlie Chaplin created The Tramp, one of the most famous cinema images of all time. Chaplin trapped himself inside an image he never truly managed to escape. The Tramp made Chaplin the best-known, best-paid film actor of his age, opened the doors of society and celebrity, and gave him riches and endless young women. Not bad for a street urchin brought up in the Dickensian slums of late 19th century London! Using specially made black and white footage, Pip literally steps in and out of the screen becoming Chaplin, stripping away the myths revealing the man beneath.
